The Giver

“If nature has made you a giver, your hands are born open, and so is your heart; and though there may be times when your hands are empty, your heart is always full."

~ Frances Hodgson Burnett

I have always been a giver.

I have always cared for, watered, and poured into others.

I have always tilled and sown seeds, but I have never been the one to receive them.

In my reconnection with my father, I realized I’m not great at it, that it doesn’t come or feel natural to me. I’ve noticed all the ways I’ve shut down and closed myself off due to being used, mistreated, and mishandled and I have been so humbled by that, but I understand that it’s a conditioning, something that has to be learned, unlearned, and relearned.

Receiving is necessary and important. It is an act of love, so…

I am allowing myself and am learning to receive.

I am allowing myself to be watered.

I am allowing myself to show up and be seen.

I am allowing myself to be gardened.

I am standing with my heart and hands open, allowing myself to be loved.

Be a giver, but allow yourself to receive too.

“Find a source you can drink from, not just pour into.”
